JBlack Rock Mountain State Park in Georgia is the perfect backdrop for our Cub Scout Fall Camping Trip! Nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains, it’s Georgia’s highest state park, offering crisp mountain air, breathtaking overlooks, and plenty of trails for exploring. The park’s name comes from its dark, sheer cliffs of biotite gneiss, which make for dramatic scenery around the campsites. It’s an ideal spot for Scouts to experience the outdoors — whether hiking through colorful fall foliage, learning about local wildlife, or sitting around the campfire under a clear night sky.
This trip isn’t just about camping — it’s about adventure, teamwork, and fun. With hiking and wide-open spaces to explore, the Scouts will have endless opportunities to build skills and friendships. Parents and leaders can enjoy the sweeping mountain views and cooler fall weather, making this a memorable weekend for the entire pack. Black Rock is the kind of place where campfire stories feel more magical and every hike feels like a new discovery — the perfect setting for our Cub Scout family to come together.

What to bring:
*It may be cold, either bundle up and have a good sleeping bag or possibly small space heater. Do not plug space heaters into power strips or use unsafe heaters indoors that produce CO/CO2
*Sleeping bag, sleeping pad (or air mattress), pillow
*Tent (two 6-man tents allowed per site maximum), 6 people max per site
*Toiletries: soap, shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrush (bath houses located on site)
*Food for Friday dinner, Saturday breakfast, Saturday lunch, and Sunday breakfast
*Bottled water or sports drinks are a good idea if it’s hot (and a cooler of ice!)
*Cookware/camp stove/fuel (water & electric power available on each site)
*BIKES (with helmets per park rules) /games like bean bag toss, fishing poles and gear, etc.
*Cameras and video cameras
*Flashlights/headlamp
