Welcome to Buford Pack 589 Cub Scouts! ­ We are looking forward to a great year!  Please review the below information as there are some events coming up that we don’t want you to miss!  Most important is the rocket derby coming up on October 2nd at Patrick Elementary. Since we had so many join at the roundup we will be hosting a special rocket derby building workshop on Monday the 27th at the Hedgerows Clubhouse at 6:30pm.  More info below on this and other things you need to know!  ­ ­ ­ ­


Welcome to Pack 589!  What’s next… ­
Thanks everyone for showing up to the roundup.  I know it was a lot of information, and we’re about to throw more at you, but I promise that was the worst of the paperwork and future payments will be optional (ie: Camping, big trip, etc).     Thanks for your patience and from here on out should be fun and productive events! You’ll begin receiving this newsletter, along with texts / emails from the Cub Master and your den leader regarding upcoming events.  All pack-wide events (all grades) are on the calendar at https://pack589.net/events/   If you are only receiving text or only email, please let me know the proper phone & email address and I’ll add it so you get all the notifications!    

Is your Scout new to Scouting (if so please read):
Every new scout is required to earn their Bobcat Badge.  It is easy and fun to do at home.  Our web site has what you need to do for the badge or your scout handbook that you purchase with your uniform at the scout store will have it as well. https://pack589.net/bobcat/  Remember, they must earn this badge before they can earn other badges.    

Pack Dues:
If you paid the 64$ to BSA, and paid the pack dues ($100), then you are all set!  If you haven’t paid the pack dues yet, you can via https://pack589.net/pack-dues/
  This will allow you to get your tshirt and Rocket.  As the rocket derby is coming up quickly, we need to get them to you so you can build!  If you have paid and are in need of a rocket, please text with Kyle: 678-523-6588 and you can pick one up or he can maybe drop one off for you.  

Rocket Derby Coming Up:
Rocket Derby is October 2nd!  Get started building and decorating those rockets!  If you need help we will be doing a special workshop at the Hedgerows Clubhouse (2820 Trailing Ivy Way, Buford, GA) on September 27th at 6:30pm.  The derby will be on the Patrick Elementary field with check-in beginning at 8:30 and rockets beginning 9:15.  Have your rocket checked-in by 9 to be eligible for design judging!

If you haven’t opened your rocket yet, know that they are slightly different from the previous year.  Please reference this video for build instructions: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kpk0ksIQeWE 
and reach out to Kyle (678-523-6588) via text if you need any help building your rocket.  

Fall Camping:
Fall camping at Morganton Point is quickly approaching.  This is an optional trip!  Sites are first come first serve and payment is due by October 1st! https://pack589.net/fallcamping  

Webelos Woods (4th and 5th Graders):
Webelos woods is also right around the corner! – If you are a Webelos or Arrow of Light (4th and 5th graders) then you are eligible.  Even if you aren’t going to camp, come join us during the day on Saturday the 25th!  If you plan on coming for the day please let JJ Thomas know to expect you – (706)- 599-4935.  If you’d like to come up for a day trip on Saturday, activities start at 9am through the afternoon.  Outdoor activities such as archery, rifle shooting, string burn and more.  If you do come up please wear Class A if you have it and bring your Class B shirt as well.  Bring your own lunch and drinks and let your Den Leaders know you are coming!

Webelos Woods is a camporee-style weekend strictly for Webelos & Arrow of Lights (and their adult leaders/parents) all over the Northeast Georgia Council at the beautiful Scoutland on Lake Lanier. Using the patrol method (a team of 4-8 youth), Scouts will compete in competitions such as: string burn, knot tying, shooting sports, stretcher relay, and the pancake cookoff! Your patrol will earn Spirit of Scouting points for: patrol flag, name, yell, duty roster, Leave No Trace campsite, shelter building, and campfire participation. Awards will be presented at the Saturday night campfire program to the patrols with the most points in each of the competitions.”
